NEWSFLASH! 05/10/10.
Steven Moffat declares "...we're not going to lose the old Daleks. We're keeping them. They're coming back." Yes, you read it correctly. It's celebration time here at CamDal HQ as we declare a milestone victory in our efforts to restore the proper purity of the Dalek race. Read the full news here.
The astonishing decision to create an entirely new breed of Daleks for the 2010 series of Doctor Who has left many Whovians bemused and irritated.
With budget cuts affecting the series, a new TARDIS interior, a revised theme tune and opening title sequence, not to mention a heavy investment in new HD cameras to film the series, some can only wonder why it was decided that the show also needed a new Dalek design, given the limited resources available to the production team. And the resulting design leaves much to be desired. Gone are the sleek sculpted lines of the Daleks we saw in the 2005 series revival (themselves based heavily on the original designs from 1963), replaced by a gaudy plasticky design with colours reminiscent of the Power Rangers and huge mid-sections that make the Daleks resemble bumper cars. What has happened to our beloved Daleks?
Can the redesign really be a flimsy excuse to sell more Doctor Who action figures and Halloween costumes, as mooted in this recent article in an edition of Private Eye? It's time to take a stand! Here at CAMDAL, the Campaign For Real Daleks, we want to see a return to an earlier Dalek aesthetic, and you can help. Are you one of those unhappy with the new Dalek design? If so, please take the time to sign our online petition and have your voice heard. The petition will open in a new window. Together we can make a difference! Return your costumes and action figures and get involved!
