A critique of the new Dalek design

What was once a squat metallic shape resonating pure evil has become instead a plastic oversized gaudy caricature of past glories. Witness this comparison to see how the huge size of the new Daleks compares with the old:

Whereas the 2005 redesign was a faithful homage, and development of the original Dalek design by Raymond Cusick, this latest unecessary revamp has removed much of the infamous nature of our beloved xenophobes and replaced it with something resembling the Power Rangers:

Can it be true that the new design was prompted merely to sell more toys and merchandise? Since when did the BBC, a publicly owned body, financed by the licence payer, become George Lucas? Surely such blatant profiteering is in contravention of the BBC charter?

The new Daleks have the plasticky feel of a new Mini, the bulbous nature of a new Fiat 500, mated with the large rubber base of a dodgem ca:
