News This page will track changes/additions to the site. Also, very occasionally this site will get some kind of mention somewhere and I'll think I'm really important so this page will also act like a trophy cabinet where I stare at the list of referrals I've had and laugh manically to myself before remembering how pathetic I really am. Sigh...
5th October 2010 - Steven Moffat declares "...we're not going to lose the old Daleks. We're keeping them. They're coming back."
Yes, you read it correctly. It's celebration time here at CamDal HQ as we declare a milestone victory in our efforts to restore the proper purity of the Dalek race. As featured in The Brilliant Book of Doctor Who, the Vast Toffee (wish I knew what that meant) appears to have had a change of heart. And yet...some things still don't quite add up. Interviewer: What prompted the Dalek redesign? Vast Toffee: That was prompted by me walking into the prop room and realising we had only three Daleks. We say: So why not build more? Wouldn't that have been cheaper than a total redesign? Vast Toffee: They're our Big Bad, and we had three of 'em! We need loads and loads of Daleks. We say: Why do you need loads of them? During the Eccleston finale they only had three Dalek props, and yet they were able to give the illusion of tens of thousands in space, and many more than three on set. It's called special effects. And having only three Daleks didn't stop the old series...witness Day of the Daleks (OK, OK, bad example, but you get our drift). Vast Toffee: How could I justify asking for half a dozen more? We say: Who says you need to justify it? Have you looked at your job description lately? Aren't you the Producer? Vast Toffee: All I've done is give the Daleks an officer class. We say: Hang on...this makes no sense at all. I don't know any armies that have a "drone" officer class. And how does this explain the appearance of many, many drone Daleks in the Doctor Who Adventure Games, not to mention the Dalek drones seen en masse in The Only Good Dalek GN with not a single old style Dalek amongst them? An entire army composed of officers? I don't think so... Here at CamDal, we are grateful for the restoration of the old Daleks, but these excuses are just insulting. Why not just admit that this was a mistake driven by marketing, shoot those responsible and move on?
